Yesterday evening we… (myself, Asia and Mike) decided to unpack the new Raclette grill and attempt a Raclette night!!!
Raclette is a Swiss cheese and is traditionally heated in front of a fire then scraped over the food. As we don’t have a fire (…just gas central heating), we decided that a purpose-built Raclette grill was probably the safest way to proceed. We simply grilled meat, added the potatoes then scraped (racler) the cheese over the top – tasty and simple!
This is the second time I’ve ever had Raclette… the first was at my sister and brother in-laws when they lived in Southampton (around December time 2012).
This is such a simple and fun way to eat and socialize with friends… we also had plenty of red wine on hand and decided to go for the Campo Viejo Rioja – Reserve (as we had conveniently just purchased a case of it!).
Our Raclette cook-off consisted of:
- A Raclette Grill (obviously)
- Raclette Cheese (pretty important ingredient and can be found behind the cheese counter at Waitrose)
- Pickled Onions
- Rocket Salad
- Boiled Potatoes
- Thinly sliced frying steak
- Streaky Bacon
Heat the grill and start frying!
While the food is grilling, heat the Raclette cheese on the small paddle pans and wait for it to melt – once melted, scrape over the grilled meat and potatoes!
